Hollywood is known for delivering box office hits when their movies are centered around a superhero. Not that, movies with plots other than those based around superheroes don’t deliver, but then the chances of scoring a hit always increase when the plot is based around a super-hero. It also increases the chances of people demanding a sequel and the producer consequently raking in more moolah. Following is a list of the top 10 Hollywood superhero movies
Spiderman
spiderman 6
Based on the comic book series Spiderman created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, this super box office hit which has spawned sequels as well, was directed by Sam Raimi and written by David Koepp. Initially released in the summer of 2002 as a potential blockbuster for the kids, this movie not just enthralled the kids but adults as well. The adults became equal fans of Spiderman’s swinging and biting like a spider prowess as it transported them back to their childhood. That the sequels did huge business with absolutely no competition to it on the opening weekends ensured that Spiderman lived up to the hype and expectations the first movie had generated
Iron man
¡iron man pose2
Based on a character created by Stan Lee and his team members, the Ironman movie directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Avi Arad and Kevin Feige is another cult superhero movie. Though rated PG-13 due to some of its sex scenes and excessive violence portrayal, this movie managed to garner a huge fan following especially with its mind blowing visual effects.
Hancock
hancock
Though not exactly in the league of superhero movies such as Iron Man, The Dark Knight or Incredible Hulk, Hancock directed by Peter Berg and written by Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan is an action movie with a straying plot line. With a star cast that boasts of actors such as Will Smith playing an unlovable superhero, in addition to Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman; this movie has utterly boring and bizarre twists and almost looses the plot halfway. But then it is a movie which any action fan wouldn’t mind watching twice, the plot be damned!
Hulk
hulk
Another movie of a comics superhero having its own franchise is the super-hit movie Hulk. Created by Jack Kirby as a comic super-hero, this movie by Lee while maintaining the superhero image of Hulk have done away with quite some other Hulk facts. Yet the result is an intense and block buster movie involving a chase and battle sequence between the U.S. military and Hulk. Loaded with action scenes that are bound to set the adrenaline and testosterone levels surging, this movie has but an ending which though easy to figure out, leaves the audience with quite some whys and hows.
X2
x2 2003
A movie that’s way better than X-Men, X2 has only Alan Cumming, the blue-skinned teleporter Nightcrawler, as a new addition to its storyline. The visual effects of this blockbuster are however worth every dime you spend to watch the movie – especially the scenes that involve Nightcrawler teleporting and fighting the Secret Service agents, Wolverine squaring against Deathstrike in the clawfight or for that matter even Pyro holding off the cops with his fire fighting abilities. No doubt the movie is well made though the talent of the cast does seem under-utilized. However as mentioned it is the visual effects that are worth a dekko!
